Introducing the McCool Family: New Owners of Champions
In late December 2011, MVP Sports, LLC, a limited liability corporation established by Bill and Tami McCool of Manchester, Iowa, purchased Champions Sports Center located at 4600 Park Ave in Des Moines, Iowa from Overtime Sports, LLC.
The McCools are very excited to continue to offer youth sports training, exercise, agility, camps, tournaments, and educational programs/events that Champions is known for, while adding additional education/training for several new sports, including baseball, softball, and wrestling in the coming months. The McCools are focused on providing a "first class" indoor sport facility, with competent instructors and coaches, and many plans are underway to improve the look and feel of the property. Prior to the summer, air conditioning will be provided in the gym area to allow comfortable "year round" availability on the numerous courts and spaces available on the property, as well as many other cosmetic updates.
The McCool’s mission plan of Champions Sports Center is:Champions Sports Center will help the development of competitive athleticism in multiple sports activities to area youth, in the spirit of fair play, honesty, integrity, and sportsmanship, while providing a safe, clean and fun environment.
The business will be managed and operated by the McCool family. Zach McCool is currently managing the day-to-day business activities onsite. Zach is a recent graduate of the University of Iowa with a BA in Health and Sports Studies and an entrepreneurial certificate, where he also starred as a third baseman and utility player on the baseball team, and achieved 3rd Team All-Big Ten player honors in 2010. Zach was chosen as the baseball player to be represented for the "24 Hawkeyes to Watch" during the 2010-2011 athletic year.
In July, Nick McCool will be joining the staff to help his brother. Currently, Nick is a teacher and coach at Iowa Valley in Marengo where he is the head softball coach, Junior High basketball coach and helps with the football program, while teaching Physical Education. Nick was recently named the "Coach of the Year" in the SICL Conference, after winning 3 consecutive conference softball championships. Nick is married to Bethany. Bethany works at Principal in Des Moines, and will assist at the facility with her computer knowledge. They are expecting their first child in early June.
Bill & Tami also have 2 daughters. Mallory is married to Jesse Cunningham and lives in Cedar Rapids. She is a RN, BSN in the Obstetrics Department at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. Jesse works at ADM. Maleah is 15 and a sophomore at West Delaware High School. She is involved in Show Choir and many music activities. Mallory, Jesse and Maleah will help at the facility when their schedules allow. The McCools are anxious to meet all of the fine young athletes, coaches, and parents that have frequented the property in the past, and hope that their dedication and the continued planned improvements to the property and programs keep you coming back.
